St Ives

Cradled by prehistoric landscapes, St Ives was the centre of a thriving fishing industry before the pilchard reserves dried up and creative folk moved into its net lofts, drawn by the famous quality of the light and the bohemian culture that once characterised the town. Since the 19th century a wave of internationally recognised artists have laid their roots in St Ives – including sculptor Barbara Hepworth, potter Bernard Leach and painter Ben Nicholson, among many others..

Parking

No 11 Fish Street owns a private parking space at Barnoon Terrace. The space is controlled using 2 bollards and the keys are kept in the house and collected when guests drop their luggage off. Directions to reach the space are provided with the keys and it is a 4/5 minute walk back to the house from the car parking space.

The nearest public car park to the house is The Island car park. It is open 24 hours and has 129 spaces. A day session costs £5.70 (8am - 6pm), a 24 hour session is £6.40 and a full week is £35. Weekly tickets can only be purchased by mobile phone, otherwise the Pay & Display machines take cash and debit/credit cards. The car park is signposted at the end of Fish Street. It is normally very busy and even if you purchase a weekly ticket for this car park, it does not guarantee you a space on your return.

An alternative to buying a Weekly ticket at a specific car park, is to buy a Rover ticket which is weekly and allows you access to many long stay car parks in St. Ives and the County. Within St. Ives, the following car parks allow you to use a Rover ticket: Barnoon (near the private car parking space), Island, Park Avenue, Station and Trenwith car parks. You must purchase the Rover ticket before your holiday, please visit the Cornwall Council website, Countrywide Rover tickets section.
